The origin of Halloween* 🎃

This holiday started in Ireland and was originally a festival of the dead.

It is celebrated on the 31st of October. The word "Halloween" means All Hallows Eve because the 1st of November is All Hallows Day.
Его отмечают 31 октября. Слово Хэллоуин означает Канун Дня Всех Святых, потому что День Всех Святых отмечался 1 ноября.

People used to think that the evening is the time when witches, ghosts and other creatures are about.

So this holiday is associated with death and the supernatural. It is very popular with children and teenagers, especially in America.

On that day children wear unusual fancy costumes and masks of witches, ghosts, ghouls, bats, evil spirits, skeletons and frighten people. 
Дети наряжаются в причудливые костюмы и маски привидений, ведьм, вампиров и т.п. и пугают людей. 

They say “Trick or Treat”. If they get a treat, they go away. But if they don’t, they play tricks.
Они говорят "Угощение или шутка". Если их не угощают, они могут подшутить.

The main attribute of Halloween is Jack-O`Lantern 🎃 or hollowed-out pumpkin. It is cut up to look like a frightening face and a candle is placed inside.
Главный символ праздника - Фонарь Джека 🎃, или вырезанное из тыквы пугающее лицо. Внутрь обычно ставят свечу или небольшую лампочку.
